None of which truly explains why I choose to show up every day. I had to dig a little deeper... Growing up, my sisters and I were raised by a very strict single father who had MANY rules. Getting straight A's in school wasn't enough. If \u00a0you wanted to live under his roof (rent free, he would add\ud83d\ude0f), then you had to play a sport or an instrument. Since I had no musical ability or skills \u00a0whatsoever, I decided to give sports a try. Softball and basketball were my two favorite sports but (not to toot my own horn) I excelled at them all. I loved having an outlet to freely express my competitive nature. Sports helped build my character and taught me many important life lessons. So I guess that's where my need for a fitness routine stems from. I have to move every day to feel complete. YES, I have rest days! \nBack to my mom not being in the picture, it\u2019s because most of her extracurricular activities sadly involved heavy drug use, ultimately leading to a heroin addiction, becoming homeless, and losing custody of all her kids. I'm thankful everyday that my dad stepped up to the plate (sports pun for ya) and took charge. How amazing we all turned out to be is a direct reflection on his tireless efforts as a single parent. \nI don't know who or where my mom is right now but I do know that she's my motivation to be better in life for myself and someday, for my kids. Crazy how you can take a bad situation and turn it into a positive life decision, right? \nSo back to the main question - Why do I Basecamp? I do it because it's a \u00a0positive addiction. You have the power of choice in life. You decide the life you want to live. I choose and will always choose to do things that are good for my mind, body, and soul.
